The Feynman Technique

February 24, 2025 by Lina Kim

Want to crush your final exams? Study using the Feynman Technique!

“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”
–Albert Einstein

The Feynman Technique is a study method where you try to explain concepts simply. By attempting to explain a concept in simple terms, you’ll quickly see where you have a good understanding of that concept. You’ll also be able to instantly pinpoint your problem areas, because they’ll be the areas where you either get stuck or where you end up resorting to using complex language and terminology.

Try it out!

Choose a topic: Pick a concept you want to learn

Study: Research and select the most important information

Teach: Explain the topic to someone who doesn’t know it well, like a child

Identify gaps: Notice where your knowledge is incomplete

Simplify: Use analogies and clear language to explain the topic

Review and repeat: Repeat the process to maximize retention
