Dear Student,
I just wanted to give you some pointers on a positive start with this coming year that may help you. One thing that I learned quickly when I got here is you have to put yourself out there if you want to associate with people. It is important to have a positive attitude and believe in yourself and keep your own goals in mind when you are doing things. One experience I had, which I’m sure almost all college students have, is shutting down before a midterm or not believing you can do good on the test. Well before it gets to crunch time, know that there are MANY resources on and around campus that can help you with that. The staff is here to watch you succeed; all you must do is put the work in yourself.
While you are here at school, there are going to many distractions, because we are all college students trying to make the best of our time here but it is important to remember why you are here in the first place. There are a few things that I have learned since I have been here about moving away to college. It is important to have a growth mindset. You will fail… eventually, and it is vital to push through any challenges that may come your way. A growth mindset is being able to have a positive outlook on a situation and not play victim in situations. It is not giving up so easily but instead having an open mind when people try to help you. It is to help you grow as a person.
I hope this can help you in the future and always remember, GO BUCKS!
Best,
A. P.
