Dear incoming OSU students,
I am writing this letter to first congratulate you on your admission into the university, and offer words of encouragement and helpful tips based on what I have learned in my first year here on campus. In order to make it through the challenges and obstacles, be resilient and believe in yourself; you need to know that you are enough. I completely understand how hard you worked to get into Ohio State. With all the pressure, it can feel like you are in constant competition with other students. Do not let this discourage you from putting your all into your work.
When I first came to the university I was very intimidated by how much more intelligent all of the other students seemed. I felt like I didn’t belong here with them. You deserve to be here and pursue your education just like everyone else here at the university. Use the positive rankings of the school and all students in your class to motivate you to present your best work instead of being afraid to try because you don’t feel worthy. Of course there will be times where you will struggle and need to reach out for help. Don’t ever hesitate to utilize the resources around you to stay afloat when it feels like you’re sinking.
You have already done the right things to get to this moment, the first step of the journey to your goals. Students, know that you have already shown that you do have what it takes to be successful, and that you exemplify the definition of a dreamer. Keep your eyes focused on that distant star, and you are sure to add in each of your own unique lights to the community here at OSU. Welcome home, Buckeyes!
Wishing you all the very best,
A.O
