Discussion for "A Hope in the Unseen"

HOPE Discussion 1 

For the first discussion, consider the following question:

In Chapter 5 of A Hope in the Unseen, Cedric meets with Clarence Thomas, the U. S. Supreme Court justice. Do you agree or disagree (or some of each) with what Justice Thomas tells Cedric about making choices at college? Be sure to back up your opinion with beliefs and strategies you’re learning about in EPL 259.

HOPE Discussion 2

In Chapters 7-8 in A Hope in the Unseen, Cedric is having difficulty adjusting to life at Brown University, including problems with his roommate and other students in the dorm.  What advice would you give him based on strategies and beliefs you’re learning in the EPL 259 course?

Choose one of the following people from the A Hope in the Unseen:  Barbara Jennings, Chiniqua, Zayd, Phillip Atkins, La Tisha or Cedric’s father.  Describe how that person either uses one or more of the four strategies for achievement to his or her benefit or does not use them, with negative results. 

Reminder: the four strategies are: 1) Take reasonable risk, 2) Take responsibility for your outcomes, 3) Search the environment, 4) Use feedback.
