Hello everyone,

Schedule

Modules 1 and 2 close Friday by midnight (there is no more access to the
modules after midnight). Portfolio 2 is due Wednesday, October 5th by 6 PM.
Hope Paper 1 is due Monday, October 10th, by 6 PM. Many of you missed an
opportunity
to participate in LMS Discussion 1. Others only made two submissions and
therefore will only receive 2 of the 4 possible points. Remember that you
must register for the discussion groups using your last name for these
submissions. If you post as a guest, I won't find your postings when I
search for them.

After this, I won't be reminding you of what is coming due. You will be
responsible for knowing all the due dates from the Calendar or from the
schedule I attached to my first class e-mail.

Course Policies

I should say a little more about assignment deadlines. Modules and
Discussions close at the stated times and late work is not allowed. One of
the Course learning objectives is developing academic discipline and
therefore I make exceptions to these closing times only for documented
medical and family emergencies. If you have a problem that will cause you to
be late, let me know about your problem early if you want a deadline
exception.

Portfolios and Hope Papers may be submitted up to one "class" late, with an
automatic 7 point deduction. For our purposes, "classes" are on Mondays and
Wednesdays. So, for example, if you have not submitted Portfolio 1 (due at 6
p.m. tonight) you can get it to me by Monday at 6 p.m. and still receive
credit. You'll get 7 points less than your grade would have otherwise been
(remember that all portfolios are worth 30 points). After that, I will not
accept the paper.

Module Hints

Modules 1 and 2 in the gradebook are due Friday, Oct. 7th. Don't procrastinate in
starting. Look at Module 1, Assignment 4 early so you'll have time to get it
done before the Module closes. If you don't understand the directions, read
them again, carefully. Then, if you still don't understand what to do,e-mail
me. Also, some of the language in Module 1 refers to "both of you".
This reflects the original course design where partners worked together. You
only need to think about yourself.

Class e-mails

Remember that I send e-mails to the entire class every Monday and Wednesday.
Often, I will give you hints on upcoming assignments. Sometimes, assignments
will be modified for our distance version of the class. Later in the
quarter, the class e-mails will also contain attachments that are the basis
for some assignments. After I send the class e-mail, it is put on
the website under Lecture Notes and Attachments, Rick's section, so you will
always have access to it.

I hope you have a great weekend. Talk to you Monday.

Rick
