Week2a
Hello everyone,
Hope you're getting the hang of things.
Here is some additonal coaching.
Read the instructions carefully as you
complete your work in the modules.
Make sure you understand what's being
asked; if not ask me. Where it says
"two complete paragraphs" that's how much
you need to write in order to get
full credit.
Foundation of the
course - stACH - Strategies for Achievement
Module 2 is the foundation of
the course. The four strategies and eight
sub-strategies included in stACH
are based on what successful people do
differently than non-successful
people.
1. Take Reasonable Risk, Go for the Goal, and Bite Sized
Pieces.
A reasonable risk means you stand about 50/50 chance of success.
Any easier
than that will mean you won't be as interested. Any harder, and
you'll be
intimidated. Challenge yourself, but don't set yourself up for
failure.
Break big tasks into smaller, manageable tasks.
2. Take
Responsibility, Think Positive, Plan.
Understand that you control what
you achieve by your efforts and strategies.
You have what it takes to
succeed, but having a goal is not enough.
3. Search the Environment, Just
Ask, Visualize It.
All learning requires that you interact with your
environment. Be active in
your search. Academics ask and answer questions.
When you have trouble
understanding, ask yourself -or others- "What question
does this information
answer?" Organize information visually (rather than
with words) so that you
use the right side of your brain in addition to your
left side.
4. Use Feedback, Keep Track, Tell Yourself.
Learning is
change. Without feedback, you are unlikely to change. Utilize
feedback
actively. Keep track of where are you now by noting and recording
your
progress. Test yourself and give yourself instructions
Portfolio
2
Your second paper, Portfolio 2, requires you to apply these
strategies.
Reflect with reference to the strategies in the LMS book. Don't
reflect on
your life alone.
Check your progress using
Gradebook:
You can only access Gradebook after you've hit "submit". Only
graded
activities show up in your total. Some are automatically graded. Some
need
to be graded by me. Class averages in the total column are meaningless
until
the end. Meaningful numbers for overall achievement need to include
only
graded activities up to the most recent close date. The percentage shown
is
of the total points for the class, not for the total you have
attempted

Naming convention and submitting papers:
Some of you seem to
have missed the following from my second e-mail. Please
take note. All
Portfolios and Hope papers should be sent to me as WORD
documents, attached
to an e-mail to mosholder.6@osu.edu . Always name your
WORD documents with
your last name and the name of the assignment. For
example, when Beth
Reynolds submits Portfolio 2, the name of her WORD
document should be
"ReynoldsPort2.doc". Please follow this naming
convention; otherwise I risk
losing your work. After the first couple
papers, I'll start deducting two
points for documents that are
incorrectly
named.
Sincerely,
Rick
