Some tips for EPL 259 students (from D'Arcy):

(This is D'Arcy John Oaks, the Systems Designer at the
A.L.L.
You can contact him at oaks.9@osu.edu.)
Hi. This is D'Arcy. Here are some tips for you to help you in your endeavors with EPL 259.
1) Things you need: a textbook, access to a computer (PC or Mac) with an Internet connection, a browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator), an OSU username and password, and access to email.
2) A 56.6 Kbps modem is about the minimum speed modem you ought to use. 28.8 Kbps will work, but will be clearly slower. In the WEDLC we have an ethernet connection, which is fast.
3) Get acquainted and used to Course Sorcerer. Course Sorcerer is the system that delivers and accepts most of the course work for this course (that is, Course Sorcerer is where you find Assignments/Applications/etc., and it is where you put your submissions). The first and second time you submit homework in Course Sorcerer, it may be a little clunky to you, but soon it will become very easy. We try to make this course so that you do all of your Course Sorcerer work in the WEDLC, with the benefit of your instructor to aid you with your work.
4) You need your OSU password to use Course Sorcerer. If you don't know it, you may go here to find it. You can't participate in the course without this, so figure it out A.S.A.P.
5) On most items for submission (Applications, Assignments, Quick Practices, etc.) you may go back and change or finish your answer multiple times up until the close date (Course Sorcerer displays the close date for each item to be submitted). After the close date you may not change a submission or enter a new submission. Spotquizzes and most Quick Practices are available only once (that is, Course Sorcerer will accept only one submission per student per spotquiz).
6) Course Sorcerer closed dates should be considered solid and immovable. Closed date absolutely means closed date. These dates will not be moved. If you have a particular situation that requires attention in regard to closed dates, take it up with your instructor.
7) The tech team and I are around the WEDLC a lot (during your class time and other "business hours" during the week). Please know that part of our responsibilities are to aid in your use of the technology. We don't bite so come bug us if you have problems.
