Analyzed Results: Central High School, Kansas City

In total, 69 students were enrolled in the Strategies for Success course at Central High School in Kansas City during the Fall 2004 term.  For data analysis purposes, these students were matched on several characteristics including prior academic performance (i.e., prior cumulative GPA) with students who did not take the course.  The effect of the course on GPA for the term the course was taken was found to be statistically significant.  That is, there was a significant difference between the two group means.  The mean GPA during this term was 2.292 for students taking the course and 2.123 for their matches.  Therefore, it can be assumed that the Strategies for Success course had an impact on the students’ academic performance such that students who were enrolled in the course experienced noteworthy improvements in their grade point averages during the term they completed the course.
